MnDOT announces $13 million in grants for local transportation alternative projects

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) invites local communities and regional agencies to take advantage of a new $13 million competitive grant program intended to fund projects for pedestrian and bicycle facilities, historic preservation, Safe Routes to School (SRTS) and more.

The new Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) provides funding for a variety of projects, including many that were previously financed under separate programs, such as Transportation Enhancements, Scenic Byways and Safe Routes

to School.

The grant solicitation process is currently open only to Greater Minnesota applicants.

West Central Initiative and MnDOT District 4 will host a TAP workshop on Wednesday, October 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. at West Central Initiative, 1000 Western Avenue, in Fergus Falls. Anyone who anticipates applying for TAP or SRTS funding is strongly encouraged to attend the workshop.

Deadlines for Greater Minnesota applicants are:

● November 15, 2013 - Letter of intent deadline

● February 1, 2014 - Full grant application deadline

● April 15, 2014 - Grant recipients announced
