One more step toward state

The Osakis girls and boys were third in the Section 6A-21 track and field meet at Morris Thursday, sending several athletes to the Section 6A meet yesterday, Thursday, at MSU-Moorhead.

Becka Sadlemyer ran to a first place in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 27.19 for the only individual top finish for the Silverstreaks.

The Streaks added firsts in the girls’ 4x100 and 4x200 relays as Katie Didier, Aimee Allen, Taylor Kraemer and Sadlemyer ran the 4x100 in 51.90, and Kraemer, Allen, Hannah Szech and Sadlemyer ran the 4x200 in 1:50.38.

“Our girls’ relays had a little trouble with handoffs, but still ran times that were good,” said Silverstreak head coach Lee VanNyhuis. “If we can improve our handoffs, we should be competitive with the other top teams in the section.”

The boys’ 4x100 relay team of Ben Kuhnau, Cole Erie, Nikolaj Hagen and Jared Wagner was also first in 46.15.

“All four boys’ teams qualified for sections,” said Nyhuis. “This is the first year we’ve been able to do this. Each team was able to run their best times of the season at the sub-section meet.

“Collin Dague and Mariah Backes have made good improvements over the course of the season in the 300 hurdles,” he added. “And Becka Sadlemyer ran really well in the 200. She’s done a great mob all season, anchoring our sprint relays.

“Alyssa Timmerman had her best throw in the shot put. She has her eye on the school record.

“The kids have done a great job this year. Their hard work in practice is paying dividends at the right time of the season.”
