Hawks fall to Bluedogs in playoffs

Osakis will face Alexandria in an elimination game tomorrow, Saturday

The Osakis Hawks survived through the weekend by upending Kensington 11-3 before falling to the top seed in the West on Sunday.

The Brandon-Evansville Bluedogs played like the No. 1 seed they are in their opening round win over Osakis.

The Bluedogs jumped out to a 10-0 lead and cruised to a 21-7 win. Mike Bruns had a strong first three innings on the mound before running into some trouble in the fourth. Osakis scored six runs to chase Bruns from the game. Matt Kruize relieved him and got out of the jam to end the inning. He went on to pitch the final four innings and allowed just one run.

The offense created a lot of breathing room in the later innings. Lee Nelson had a huge day, going 5-for-5 with two doubles and a home run. Nate Meissner added two doubles and a homer, while Brent Meissner added a home run, as well. The three home runs on their home field came after the Bluedogs had hit just one home run all season in Evansville.

Brandon-Evansville will now host Ashby at 8 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday. Ashby is coming off a 4-2 win over Alexandria last weekend. The A’s and the Bluedogs have already qualified for regions with their wins. Osakis and Alexandria are playing an elimination game tomorrow in Alexandria to determine the third and final West division team that will make the regional tournament.
