State softball: Osakis falls to New Life Academy in opener
New Life Academy scored in bunches using a three-run third inning and a six-run fifth inning en route to a 13-0 victory over previously undefeated Osakis in the quarterfinals of the Class A State Softball Tournament.
Seven different Eagles recorded hits led by shortstop Lauren St. John who went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two runs driven in. Rebekah Schmidt went the distance to earn the win, scattering two hits while striking out 11.
Osakis was able to garner just two hits in the shutout as Sabrina Zimmel and Alex Anderson each had one.
Zimmel also took the loss for Osakis as she went the five innings, allowing the 13 runs of which just four were earned. She gave up 11 hits and four walks but did not strike out any batters. Osakis committed four errors in the game.
