By: Todd County Child Protection team , The Osakis Review

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Todd County Child Protection Team and the Todd County PEACE Council encourage all residents of Todd County to engage in activities that strengthen families and communities. You can make a difference! Be a nurturing adult. Learn about how children grow and mature. Help a friend. Take good care of yourself. Get involved and volunteer for programs that serve children and families. Report suspected child abuse and neglect to your local social services or law enforcement agency.

A pancake supper and parenting education event will be held on Thursday, April 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Long Prairie. Dr. Steve Kahn will be speaking on “Insightful Parenting – Making Moments Count”, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Child care and Spanish interpreters will be available.

Todd County was awarded the Blue Ribbon Award from Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota, at the April 3 meeting of the Todd County Board of Commissioners meeting. This award is given in recognition of the prevention activities offered throughout the year that promote the five protective factors: (1) children’s social and emotional development, (2) knowledge of parenting and of child and youth development, (3) parental resilience, (4) social connection and (5) concrete supports for parents. We hope that you will take the opportunity to attend this year’s education event.

Together, we can make a difference in the lives of children and families!
