Letter to the editor: Park Osagi not the place for skate park

To the editor:

I am extremely disappointed by the city council’s decision to basically destroy most of Park Osagi!

Park Osagi is a beautiful, shady place that is enjoyed by Osakis residents and tourists alike. It provides a playground for young children, picnic areas for families, shelters for large group gatherings, etc.

Putting 6,000 feet of concrete in anywhere in the park will virtually destroy the park.

A skateboard park is not compatible with a peaceful, family park. I am not opposed to Osakis having a skateboard park.

I applaud the efforts of the Girl Scouts to raise the money to provide one more form of entertainment for our teenagers. But by its very nature, a skateboard park is a loud, active place. It does not belong in a lakeside park.

The city council made a ridiculous, foolish decision when they decided that Park Osagi was a suitable place for a skateboard park. It is probably the worst place. Did they even consider any other place?

How about the Lion’s Park on the edge of town? How about 6,000 feet in the industrial park area? How about almost any other place except Park Osagi?

I encourage everyone to call the mayor and the city council members and express your disappointment with their decision.
