Osakis Silverstreaks suffer first loss
Browerville held on for a 6-3 victory
The Browerville softball team handed Osakis its first loss of the season in a 6-3 game last Friday night.
A battle of the top two teams in the Prairie Conference swung in the Tigers’ favor in the fifth inning. Browerville scored five runs in that inning to open up a 6-0 lead that it would never relinquish.
Osakis got one back in the bottom of the inning and two more in the sixth. It wasn’t enough as the Tigers moved to 4-0 and dropped Osakis to 4-1.
“We didn’t match the intensity that Browerville brought to the game so we were playing catch-up the entire game,” head coach John Stigman said. “We made several physical and mental errors that opened the door, and they took advantage of it.
“We couldn’t get anything going till the fifth, and by that time we were already down 6-0. That’s a big lead to overcome when two good teams are battling. We tried to get some momentum going in the late innings, but it wasn’t sustainable.”
Sabrina Zimmel took the loss in a complete-game performance. She allowed six runs, just two earned, on eight hits and three walks. She struck out 10.
Rachelle Rajdl had a triple and a run scored to help out the offense. Lauren Silbernick added a hit and two RBIs, while Alex Anderson added a run and her team’s only other hit of the night.
