Osakis 5th graders graduated from the Drug Abuse and Resistance Education (DARE) program last week and they now have the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs and violence.

During the program held April 30, two students’ essays were chosen as the best of the bunch and they were read to the crowd – one by Tianna Stanek and the other by Brooke Pfeffer. Each girl took the stage and shared what they learned from the DARE program.

Stanek said she learned how to be successful in life and Pfeffer said DARE taught her to help others and make healthy choices. The girls each won $25 in Osakis Chamber Bucks. Alternate essay winners were Morgan Herzog and Easton Linn.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy Ron Boyden is the school resource officer who led the DARE program this school year.
