While finalizing details for your Memorial Day weekend plans, be sure to take time to gather with fellow community members to pay your respects to those who have fought for our country.
On Monday, May 28, the annual Osakis Memorial Day Service is set to begin at 10:45 a.m. at Lakeside Cemetery.
Just before the service, at 10:30 a.m., the popular Memorial Day parade will set out from Park Osagi and travel east along Lake Street to the cemetery. Representatives from the Osakis VFW and Auxiliary Honor Guard, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Brownies will be featured in the parade.
During the service, Osakis resident and military veteran Don Moore will be the guest speaker and provide the invocation and benediction.
Moore’s presentation is themed around “In God We Trust.”
Moore was in the Air Force for four years, from July 1963 to July 1967.
In describing his own military service, Moore said, “For 18 months I was assigned to the 1st Mobile Communications Group at Clark Air Base in the Philippine Islands. I went TDY from there to Nakhon Phanom, Thailand, to Qui Nhon, Viet Nam, and to Udorn, Thailand. My last two years were spent at Ent AFB, Colorado Springs Colorado assigned to the North American Air Defense Communications Center. It was while stationed in Colorado I met my Iowa raised wife, Jan, when she worked at the Air Force Academy at that time.”
The Gordon Men’s Choir will also make two performances during Monday’s service.
In the event of poor weather, services will be held at Osakis Public School in the gymnasium.
