Hazon, America’s largest Jewish environmental group, is hosting a cross-country bike trip that will stop in Osakis on Tuesday, July 10.
The Aberdeen-to-Minneapolis leg of the Cross USA Bike Ride is the half-way point of the 10-week trip. From Osakis, the group will ride on to St. Cloud and the Twin Cities. Riders will average 70 miles per day and will not ride on Shabbat, spending an extra day in Minneapolis to honor and celebrate the Jewish day of rest before leaving on Sunday to begin the ride’s sixth week.
According to a news release, Cross USA will offer riders an opportunity to transform their bodies, strengthen their minds and inspire them and other across the United States to live healthier, more sustainable lives. Organizers said the ride aims to challenge participants physically while helping each learn how to apply Jewish beliefs into building a better world. Riders of all faiths were invited to participate.
The Cross USA Bike Ride is expected to take 72 days to complete, beginning in Seattle, Washington and ending in Washington, D.C.
