Asparagus Spears Baked in Creamy Parmesan Sauce

Waiting for the first delectable spears of asparagus to break through the soil in the spring takes patience. For days, I rushed out to the weedy garden in my yard. This was a prolific weed-free vegetable garden when my husband and I bought our house 10 years ago. Despite my lack of gardening skills, there are a couple of crowns of asparagus that were buried in the garden years ago that continue to produce.
