Zephyne Zabel, 80
Zephyne Jeanette Zabel, age 80 of Osakis, passed away on Monday afternoon, September 26, 2011 at St. Cloud Hospital.
Zephyne was born April 10, 1931 in Berrien County, Michigan to Godfrey and Phenie (Goss) Pease. She grew up in Mississippi and Michigan. In 1954, Zephyne married Orville Sprick at the Nazarene Church in Buchanan, Michigan. They settled in Lake City, Minnesota on the Sprick family farm. Upon Orville’s death in 1975, Zephyne returned to Michigan. On August 29, 1981 she married Derald Zabel. They returned to his homestead in rural Osakis.
Zephyne was a unique person who enjoyed playing guitar, drawing and painting. She also enjoyed making hand-crocheted projects to give to her family and friends and collecting dolls. In the summer months, Zephyne liked to be outdoors working in her garden. Traveling to visit family and seeing the country were other activities she enjoyed.
Zephyne was a kind and loving mother, grandma and sister who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Dale (Josie) Sprick of Brooklyn Center and Ila (Dale) Drenckhahn of Elko; three grandchildren, Dylan Sprick, Mikala and Rachel Drenckhahn; a brother, Burl (Clara) Pease of Roanoke, Indiana and a sister, Charlotte Will of Niles, Michigan; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Orville Sprick in 1975 and her husband, Derald Zabel in 2011; three brothers, Leonard, Denver and Clayton Pease and an infant brother, Sydney Pease; a sister, Audrey Diamond; half brothers and sisters, Delorne and Clarence Pease, Helen Tucker, Thad and Ollie Breland, and Ethyl Smith.
Funeral services were held for Zephyne on Thursday, September 29 at First Presbyterian Church in Osakis with the Rev. Timothy Sutton officiating. Organist was Ellen Bangtson. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery in Long Prairie. Casket bearers were her son, Dale Sprick, son-in-law, Dale Drenckhahn, three grandchildren, Dylan Sprick, Mikala and Rachel Drenckhahn, Tim Christman and LeRoy Zabel.
