Lowell Duane Peterson, 63, Long Prairie, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at CentraCare Healthsystem in Long Prairie.
Lowell was born September 20, 1948 in Bertha to Richard and Ruth (Hoglund) Peterson. He grew up on his grandparents’ and parents’ century farm in Reynolds Township.
Lowell was united in marriage to Carol (Broullire) Miller on June 14, 1973 at First Baptist Church in Long Prairie. They made their home in Gutches Grove until moving into Long Prairie in 1977.
Lowell retired from RR Donnelley Company in 2011 as a supervisor of their press room. He was a longtime member at Reynolds Baptist and First Baptist churches. Throughout his life, Lowell kept an open mind, absorbing any information and new ideas. He kept active in his community and church. Lowell earned the designation of Master Gardener and had a passion for growing flowers and vegetables, and was willing to help others with their gardening questions.
Lowell also had a passion for music, playing the piano and organ, as well as singing. He was currently a member of the Staples Area Men’s Chorus, as well as providing music for weddings and funerals. Southern Gospel Quartet was his favorite, and he attended many of their conventions. Lowell served on the Evergreen Cemetery Board, the Net Menders Ministry, and as a commander of AWANA Youth Ministry for many years. Lowell also volunteered at the local food shelf, nursing home, and at his church. He also enjoyed traveling, taking many family trips, especially a recent trip to his ancestral country of Sweden.
Lowell is survived and will be dearly missed by wife, Carol; son, Kim (Becki) Miller of Long Prairie; grandchildren, Jeremy Miller, Lance and Nora Chase; mother, Ruth Peterson of Long Prairie; siblings, Ron (Jerri) Peterson of Royalton, Sharon (Paul) Eberhard of St. Paul, David Peterson of Long Prairie, and Judy (Mike) Nelson of Elk River.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 16 at First Baptist Church in Long Prairie with Pastor Andrew Brown and the Rev. Paul Twist officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Long Prairie. Casket bearers were Jack Galligan, Lyle Danielson, Roger Spieker, Ross Munson, Bill Bass and Harley Hanson.
