Saturday, May 12

9 to 11 a.m. City of Osakis Clean-Up Day at the Osakis Liquor Store parking lot, 803 Nokomis Street. All proceeds will go toward the Fourth of July fireworks display. A freewill offering will be taken for general junk. Fees for appliances are $15 each. Fees for other items include $3 for car tires, $7 for truck tires, $16 for TVs, $6 for microwaves, and $12 per set for computers. There will also be free hazardous waste collection. 7 a.m. Yard waste pick-up begins in Osakis, sponsored by the city and West Central Sanitation. The city requires yard waste to be bagged separately and put curbside for pick-up in biodegradable bags. If you miss the 7 a.m. deadline, bring the bags to the Clean-Up Day event (see above).

8:30 a.m. Galeon Senior Living Twisted Trilogy Series — Mother's Day 5K. Race starts on the street in front of the Galeon campus. For more information, go to www.galeonmn.com/pages/twisted_trilogy_5K.

2 p.m. Osakis Women's Association Mother's Day Spring Tea at the Osakis Lutheran Church. The event is free and open to the public. Free-will donations accepted. See today's front page for more details.

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Storytime and book signing by Kari van Wakeren, Lutheran pastor, at The Owl Books and Brew, 214 Central Ave.

Monday, May 21

7 to 9 p.m. Osakis High School Senior Awards Night at Osakis Public Schools Auditorium.

Wednesday, May 23

1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Elementary Music Concert, featuring Osakis 5th-6th-graders at the Osakis Public Schools auditorium.

Sunday, May 27

1 to 3 p.m. Annual Osakis Bike Rodeo and Safety Day, south parking lot of Osakis Public Schools.

Al Edenloff

Al Edenloff is the news and opinion page editor for the Echo Press. He was born in Alexandria and lived most of his childhood in Parkers Prairie. He graduated with honors from Moorhead State University with a degree in mass communications, print journalism. He interned at the Echo Press in the summer of 1983 and was hired a year later as a sports reporter. He also worked as a news reporter/photographer. Al is a four-time winner of the Minnesota Newspaper Association's Herman Roe Award, which honors excellence in editorial writing.
