1 to 3 p.m. Annual Osakis Bike Rodeo and Safety Day, south parking lot of Osakis Public Schools.

1 p.m. Salem and Sauk Valley congregations invite neighbors and friends of Pastor Steve and Leilin Hilde to a coffee open house in celebration of Pastor Steve's retirement. It will take place at Sauk Valley Church, 13958 150th St., Osakis.

Monday, May 28

10:30 a.m. Osakis Memorial Day march starts. The Osakis High School Band, VFW Post and Auxiliary Honor Guards, Scouts, Cub Scouts, Brownies and anyone who wishes to join in will leave from the high school at 10:30 a.m. and march to the Armed Forces Memorial. The Memorial Day service will start at 10:45 a.m. at the memorial.

Wednesday, May 30

6 to 8 p.m. Osakis Public School kindergarten graduation in the cafeteria.

7:30 p.m. Osakis Public School sixth grade graduation in the auditorium.

Thursday, May 31

1 p.m. Osakis Public Schools close early for last day of school.

Saturday, June 2

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nest Pet Expo at the Eagle's Healing Nest in Sauk Centre, an event that celebrates animals with veterans. RAD Zoo, Hemker Park and Zoo, Up North Animal Encounter and This Little Horse will be there with animals, along with a handful of rescue operations and more than 40 vendors. The Just For Kix dance team will perform at 11:30 a.m. Face painting, balloon animals, a bounce house and other kid-friendly activities will be available. Lunch will be available for purchase with funds going to the Eagles Healing Nest.

Al Edenloff is the news and opinion page editor for the Echo Press. He was born in Alexandria and lived most of his childhood in Parkers Prairie. He graduated with honors from Moorhead State University with a degree in mass communications, print journalism. He interned at the Echo Press in the summer of 1983 and was hired a year later as a sports reporter. He also worked as a news reporter/photographer. Al is a four-time winner of the Minnesota Newspaper Association's Herman Roe Award, which honors excellence in editorial writing.
