Wednesday, August 22

5:30 to 7 p.m. First Presbyterian Church of Osakis invites everyone to its Friendship Table Meal, which includes grilled brats and hot dogs, baked beans, chips and ice cream sundaes for dessert. School supplies will be given out to children in kindergarten through sixth grade. All are welcome. Free-will donations accepted.

Thursday, August 23

Noon. American Veterans Traveling Tribute Vietnam Wall will be at the Eagle's Healing Nest near Sauk Centre starting at noon and continuing through 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26. Events and programs take place each day. See www.eagleshealingnest.org.

When dark. Osakis Movie Night in the vacant lot by the Visitor's Center, featuring "Pete's Dragon." Bring blanket, chair, snacks. Popcorn and soda will be available.

Saturday, August 25

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fifth annual Nest Fest presented by the Eagle's Healing Nest near Sauk Centre. Free admission, food, music, vendors, silent auction and nest tours. Also the American Veterans Traveling Tribute Vietnam Wall will be at the Eagle's Healing Nest Aug. 23-26. Medal of Honor recipient Allen Lynch will speak at 5 p.m. on Aug. 25.

3 p.m. Fourth annual Bob Sinotte Open at the Osakis Country Club, a nine-hole, two-person team fun scramble. Also long drive, longest putt and closest to the pin contest for both women and men. All proceeds go to the Mayo Clinic for cancer research. If unable to attend but would like to contribute or have a prize to donate, call Julie (320-491-4554) or Doug (320-760-4490). Registration forms or donations can be dropped off at the Osakis Country Club or the Osakis Municipal Liquor Store.

5 p.m. Gates open for "Bulls and Barrels" near Long Prairie. Presented by M.T. Bucking Bulls and Rodeo Company, the event is part of the Hustlin' for Buckles Tour. The event starts at 7 p.m. and includes beer gardens, food and clothing vendors, mechanical bull rides and "Mutton Bustin'" for children who weigh 45 pounds or less. 6 to 10 p.m. Osakis High School Class of 1993 Reunion at Knights Pub and Grub.

Wednesday, August 29

4 to 7 p.m. (or until food is gone) Osakis Hunger Coalition will serve a free pulled pork meal as a fundraiser for Backpack Attack, a project of the United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties. All free-will donations will go to support Backpack Attack in Osakis. Learn more about the program and how to help sustain it.

Thursday, August 30

1 to 3 p.m. Bookmobile at Community Memorial Home from 1 to 2 p.m. and at the Community Center from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.

When dark. Osakis Movie Night in the vacant lot by the Visitor's Center, featuring "Middle School — the Worst Years of My Life." Bring blanket, chair, snacks. Popcorn and soda will be available.

Al Edenloff

Al Edenloff is the news and opinion page editor for the Echo Press. He was born in Alexandria and lived most of his childhood in Parkers Prairie. He graduated with honors from Moorhead State University with a degree in mass communications, print journalism. He interned at the Echo Press in the summer of 1983 and was hired a year later as a sports reporter. He also worked as a news reporter/photographer. Al is a four-time winner of the Minnesota Newspaper Association's Herman Roe Award, which honors excellence in editorial writing.
