Wastewater project discussed by City Council
A bill from Hall and Associates for the work the legal firm performed regarding the Wastewater Project was approved by the Osakis City Council for payment at its Monday, Feb. 6 meeting. The bill is $23,652.65. Along with this, a bill from Flaherty and Hood for January amounting to $2,957.22 was approved.
Kurt Haakinson, public works director, requested that the wastewater project be on the agenda for a coming council work session.
"This will be one of the few cases where we can actually prove that the figures from five years ago were wrong," Haakinson told the council.
He stated he can say with almost certainty, "We will not be building a wastewater plant three years from now."
Haakinson said the money was well spent representing the city in the disagreement with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) regarding the classification and data collected on the wastewater ponds.
The Minnesota Department of Health approved the city of Osakis' wellhead protection plan, according to a letter received from the MDH's Water Protection Unit of the Environmental Health Division.
The city has 60 days to begin implementation of the plan.
