Veterans Day program is Nov. 10

Here's two ways to salute veterans in Osakis.

Attend the annual Osakis Veterans Day program. It will take place Friday, November 10 at 10:15 a.m. in the Osakis High School Auditorium.

Clergy and main address speaker will be Pastor Randy Knuth of the First Presbyterian Church in Osakis. Veterans Day falls on a Saturday this year, but organizers always hold the event during a school day so students from 7th through 12 grade can go to it. The public is also encouraged to attend.

Also, Vicki Hinrichs is leading an effort to send cards, letters and pictures to current military members and veterans living in Veteran Administration homes and hospitals in Minnesota.

The goal is to send more than 1,400 items of thanks and appreciation to veterans.

Contributors are asked to include their name and if they're students, their grade.

Boxes to drop off cards, letters and pictures are located in the offices at the Osakis Public School, St. Agnes, Galeon, First National Bank of Osakis, Thrifty White, Gas Mart and Osakis Family Foods.

The deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Those with have family members currently serving in the military should contact Hinrichs with their mailing address so they can receive the letters, cards and photos. Email vhinrichs@osakis.k12.mn.us or call her at 320-859-2191, extension 1129.
