New apartment building going up
Construction is under way on a new 15-unit apartment building in Osakis near the lake public access.
Roach Development, owned by Matt Roach, is building the three-story apartment complex at 101 Central Avenue, with fronts on Lake Street East and Central Avenue. The 37,250-square-foot building includes five two-bedroom units, and 10 three-bedroom units that will be rented at market rate. There will be parking for 30 vehicles.
The Osakis City Council approved three variances for the project, as recommended by the planning and zoning commission, at its Oct. 2 meeting. This included a conditional use permit to allow for a dwelling unit over eight units in size; variances for requests to exceed 25 feet in height in a shoreland area, exceeding 25 percent impervious in a shoreland area, reducing the lot size per unit for two and three bedrooms; and approving the site plan for the apartment building.
Also, the plans had to be approved by the Sauk River Watershed District and the Department of Natural Resources.
Plans call for a secure building, with a manager/caretaker. No dogs will be allowed.
