Time to ride the trail. Central Lakes Trails Ride takes place on Saturday, Aug. 11. The completion of the Lake Wobegon Trail's "Forgotten Four" is just around the corner and so is the Central Trail Ride. So lace up the shoes and pump the tires. The event begins at 8 a.m. and cost to register is $15 for individuals and $35 for families.
Returning soldiers eligible for free hunting. Minnesota soldiers returning from service outside the U.S. are now eligible for free hunting and fishing licenses from the MN Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Artists Sought for Exhibits The Lakes Region Arts Council invites artists from the surrounding counties and local areas to submit artwork for a "Juried Exhibit of Celebrating Ethnic and Cultural Diverse Art." The exhibit will be on display from October 14, 2007 - January 14, 2008, at the LRAC Gallery at the historic River Inn, in Fergus Falls.

Command Center dedicated to Mathews. The Osakis Fire Department honored former Fire Chief Mike Mathews, who died last December, by dedicating the new fire hall in his memory at the July 25 annual Fireman's Summer Picnic. Special guests included Mike's family and relatives, present and past firemen and their spouses.
Rubble burial law adopted by City of Osakis An ordinance regulating the burying of refuse, rubbish and building debris was presented at the City Council meeting on Monday, Aug. 3. The ordinance will provide guidelines for the burial of buildings, organic waste, and other building debris.

Archery tournament to be held on August 20. The Osakis Archery Club will hold another tournament on Sunday on the range located about six miles out of town. There will be 28 Target Animal Rounds with 14 marked and 14 marked targets. Trophies will be awarded in all classes.
Dr. J. A. Jacobson observes 45 years of practice here. On August 1 of this year, Dr. J. A. Jacobson observed the 45th anniversary of practicing dentistry. Along with his successful dentistry career, Dr. Jacobson has taken an active role in this community, including serving as mayor for one term.
New photo studio to open here on August 21. The Ranch Studio will open officially on August 21. Studio hours will be afternoons from 1-5:30 p.m. Photos taken by appointment. Evening appointments will also be available. The proprietor, Don Enger, has been a freelance photographer for 14 years, doing this first as a hobby, then as a sideline to teaching.

Red Cross Benefit. "Womanhood, The Glory of the Nation" will play at the Empress Theater August 16-17. This is a photo play screening of the realistic picture that shows what would happen to the U.S. if unprepared and attacked by a strong foreign foe.
Joe Dirnberger — Osakis meat market will buy and ship cattle and hogs and pay the right price. "Let me know when you have anything to sell and I will call and look at it and pay for it on the day of delivery and you take no chances."
Farm team tears up Main Street — stopped by telephone pole. J.E. Maher's big farm team hitched to a heavy lumber wagon, loaded with feed, came tearing down Main Street after crossing the railroad tracks. Pedestrians discovered that the rig was in high gear and nobody in the seat! Team came to a halt on the street of Metcalf Corner when the team's yoke struck a telephone pole.
