Q: The Osakis Review website looks different. What’s happening?

A: The Osakis Review launched the new version of its website on Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. The new website, still at our regular URL: www.theosakisreview.com, provides a wider format, an improved site search, additional homepage headlines and more daily updates.

Q: I haven’t been able to login since you changed the website. What do I do?

A: The Osakis Review redesigned its website May 27th, 2009. Users who had previously registered with TheOsakisReview.com before May 27th, 2009, will need to register again due to a change in our user accounting system. If you registered after May 27th, 2009, and you are still experiencing login issues, read the FAQ’s below and see if they solve your issue.

Q: How do I register at the new site?

A: Go to our homepage and click the “Register” link near the top left of the page, or go to the following URL http://www.theosakisreview.com/event/account:register/.

This will take you to a page that reads “Create a Free Account.” Here you will be asked to fill in your email address and create a password. Enter your email address in the “E-mail:” field, type your desired password in both the “Password:” and “Confirm Password:” fields. Then provide some information about your name, gender, birth year(not birthdate, birth year), and zip code. There is a checkbox under “I would like to receive the following FREE mail newsletters,” if you do not wish to receive special offers and promotions via email, feel free to uncheck the box. Then click the big brown “CREATE A FREE ACCOUNT” button.

You will be taken to a page that reads: “Thank you for registering with TheOsakisReview.com A confirmation email has been sent to your inbox. To complete the registration process please follow the instructions in the email. Once your email address has been confirmed you will be able to log in.”

You will receive an email shortly after completing the form asking you to click a link to verify your account. Click the link in the email, if you receive an error, try copying the link from the email and pasting it into your browser. Once you have successfully verified your account, you will be logged in for the first time. You will be brought to a page that reads “Thank You. Your account has been successfully confirmed…” After your account has been verified, you will be able to log in and out normally through the “Login” page at http://www.theosakisreview.com/event/account:login/.

Q: I tried registering, but I get a “Please enter a valid year” error! Why won’t it work?

On the registration page, one field is for your birth year… not birthdate, just the four-digit year.

Q: I tried registering, but I get a “Registration Failed. User already exists” error! What am I doing wrong?

Most likely you have attempted to register before, but have not verified your account yet. After your initial registration, you should have received an email asking you to click a link to verify your account. Look for the verification email from TheOsakisReview.com with the subject line “TheOsakisReview.com - Registration Verification.” and click the verification link. If it is not in your inbox, try looking your email’s spam or junk inbox for the email. Most email applications have a search tool to facilitate finding an email, try searching for TheOsakisReview.com. If you are absolutely certain that you did not register an account with us, ask your spouse if they did.

A: Some email clients may hide links as a form of phishing scam protection. Your email client may display HTML links as plain text so that you do not unintentionally click phishing links. If this happens, try copying the URL text (the really long line of text that begins with http:// and ends with /) from the email and pasting it into your browser’s address bar.

Q: I clicked the verification link and got an error that “verification code is not valid” Now what?

Most likely, the error you are seeing is from clicking the verification link more than once. For instance, if you double clicked the link, or clicked it when you initially registered and have clicked it again since, you might see this error. Try logging in normally at http://www.theosakisreview.com/event/account:login/.

The verification code is only used once, when you first register, it is not intended to be a login mechanism. To log in after you have registered and verified your account, go to http://www.theosakisreview.com/event/account:login/.

Q: I don’t remember my password! What should I do?

A: If you have forgotten your password, you can visit http://www.theosakisreview.com/event/account:login/, scroll down to “Reset Your Password” near the bottom of the page, then enter your e-mail address in the “Reset Your Password” field and click on the “RESET MY PASSWORD” button. TheOsakisReview.com will then send a temporary password to the e-mail address listed (provided you have a registered/verified account). When you receive your temporary password, go to http://www.theosakisreview.com/?event=account:viewPasswordResetForm and enter your temporary password as well as what you would like your new password to be. Then you should be able to login as usual with your new password at http://www.theosakisreview.com/event/account:login/.

Q: Do I have to reset my password every time I go to your site?

A: No. The Password Reset option at the bottom of the login page is not required to log in to our site, only to reset your password should you forget it.

Q: I tried logging in, but I get a “Signin Failed. Your email or password is incorrect” error! Why can’t I login?

A: Have you registered an account with us since Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 at 8:00 a.m.? If not, see above.

If you are absolutely certain you have registered and verified, check to see if you typed your email address and password correctly. A simple typo can cause this error.

Occasionally, this error is generated when the user’s browser, trying to be helpful, automatically enters the wrong credentials into the login form, such as an old password from the V2 site, or the wrong email address. For this reason, if there are bullets (little round dots that look like this •) in the password field on the login page, delete them, and then retype your password to ensure that you know what is being entered into that field.

Q: My TheOsakisReview.com bookmarks don’t work. How can I get them back?

A: If you have bookmarks on your computer set to the TheOsakisReview.com homepage, they should work just as before. If you have bookmarks for any other page within the TheOsakisReview.com website, you will have to locate the section or article and re-bookmark it by going to “Favorites” under your navigation bar and clicking “add to favorites” or “add to bookmarks.” This can also be accomplished on most browsers by pressing Control-D (Windows) or Command-D (Macintosh).

Q: Where are the garage sales listed?

A: You can go directly to the Garage Sales listings by clicking this link.

Additionally, we now offer a Garage Sales Map page at this link. Typically the Garage Sales Map is updated on Wednesday evenings/Thursday mornings.
