Girls Basketball: Streaks top Swanville
The Osakis girls basketball team is rolling this week as it held Swanville to nine points in the second half in a 77-34 win Tuesday after beating Melrose Area 81-34 on Monday.
"The girls had a solid game and win tonight," Streaks head coach Pat Kalpin said. "Playing two nights in a row is sometimes tough, especially at the beginning of the week, but the girls played hard. We had a lot of girls step up and play well tonight, and we executed pretty well again on the offensive end."
The Silverstreaks used 13 points from Lauren Savageau and 10 from Alecia Kaelke in the first half to go into the break with a 44-25 lead.
Avery Jackson hit eight free throws in the first half, but the Bulldogs made just six field goals in the first half. Overall, their 12-for-15 effort from the stripe allowed them to stay within a 20-point deficit.
"Defensively, we put them to free throw line too many times, especially in the first half," said Kalpin. "In the second half, we stayed in better defensive position, which kept them off the free throw line."
The Bulldogs managed just two field goals, and five made charity shots in the second half for nine points, while Sorenson scored 14 of her own on the other end for Osakis.
She finished with 22 points to lead the Silverstreaks, while Savageau added 19 points, Kaelke 13 points and nine rebounds and Morgan Staloch 10 points, eight assists and six rebounds.
Jackson led Swanville with 12 points, while Hannah Schneider put up eight.
The win moves Osakis to 19-3 overall and 10-0 in the Prairie Conference. It finishes the week with another home game at 7:30 Friday night against Browerville-Eagle Valley.
