Tennis: Osakis sweeps MACCRAY in 6A opener

The Section 6A girls tennis tournament got off on the right foot for Osakis as the top-seeded Silverstreaks breezed past MACCRAY 7-0 in Sartell on Monday.

Osakis (18-2) didn't give up more than four games at any position. Camryn Hoffarth and Kiara Hensley won 6-3, 6-1 at the second doubles spot, while Kali Giesler and Karlee Hoffarth won 6-0, 6-1 at first doubles. Dinara Dykema and Mara VanNyhuis didn't lose a game in winning at third doubles.

Freshman Tia Dykema paced the singles lineup with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the top spot. Shea Olson and Lauren Scherr followed suit at second and third singles with a clean sweep, and Alexa Lien knocked off Katie Burdorf 6-0, 6-1 at fourth singles.

The win sets up Osakis for a big day on Wednesday as the semifinal and finals rounds get started at 9 a.m. back in Sartell.
