Volleyball: Osakis falls to Pioneers

The Osakis volleyball team headed to Pierz on Tuesday to play the Pioneers (14-10) but the Silverstreaks weren’t able to secure a match win.

“We had a slow start, but closed the gap of the score,” Silverstreaks coach Kirsten Wessel said.

The Pioneers took the first set 25-17. The Streaks were closer in the second two sets, but failed to finish with the lead.

“Other than some good, hard hits from the Pioneers and a few of our errors, we were right in the running in games two and three,” Wessel said. “We did have some great aggressive volleys.”

Tianna Stanek had a team-high 12 kills, while Maddie Johanson had six kills followed by Cindy VanAcker with five. The Streaks served 93.5 percent and Stanek scored three aces on the night. Harlie Falzone had 16 of the team’s 72 total digs. Emma Johnson followed with 15 digs and Stanek had 12.

This loss drops the Steaks’ overall record to 7-14 and leaves their conference record at 5-4.

“We seemed to play more aggressively tonight,” Wessel said. “That’s what we need to do in order to finish our season strong.”
