Alexandria couple buys Captain's Table on Fairy Lake
The Sauk Centre restaurant, Captain's Table on Fairy Lake, has a new name - Sunsets - and new owners, Velvet and Louis Ross of Alexandria.
The couple brings a long history of restaurant experience and a passion for great food and service to the dining spot.
"We're so grateful to have such a talented staff at Sunsets from day one," said Velvet. "Our two chefs created an amazing menu with [former owners] the Kuehnes, so Louis and I plan to keep the delicious prime rib, steaks, pastas, seafood and others the same. Eventually we'll slowly bring in some new features as we work with our chefs, but the core will stay the same."
Diners can also expect the same good service they've grown accustomed to at 10953 County Road 11. "I'm so impressed with the servers," said Louis Ross, who has an extensive background in restaurant management. "Great service is critical in the restaurant business, and these servers definitely know what they're doing."
Velvet Ross was born and raised in Costa Rica, while Louis grew up in Alexandria and graduated from Jefferson High School.
The couple met at the University of Costa Rica in 1991 when Louis was studying Spanish for a semester in a student exchange program.
They were married in 1996 and now have two daughters - Aurora, 8, and Veronica, 5.
Velvet's love for cooking started at a young age, when she spent many hours with her mother, grandmother and aunts in Costa Rica - cooking homemade dishes for her large extended family.
While she is also a certified Spanish-English interpreter who provides services to local medical facilities and businesses, Velvet says her passion for food has always stayed with her.
The new owners said they're excited to offer great dining experiences and honored to continue the restaurant's tradition of excellence.
During the winter, Sunsets is open Tuesday through Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. and stays open until 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
