St. Agnes School in Osakis has two new teachers and a new principal, Mrs. Pat Pospisil, who has moved up from assistant principal.

Kathy Arens will teach second grade, and Peggy Stowe is the new kindergarten teacher.

A native of Crystal, Arens graduated from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in 1987. After college, she worked in the Burnsville School District as the New American Families pre-school teacher. She was also the Project K.I.D.S. coordinator for the school age children's core project.

Arens and her family have lived in the Osakis area for 10 years. Her husband, Chris, grew up in St. Paul and is employed in the Todd County Planning and Zoning Department. Their two sons, Dan, 19, and Nathan, 18, are both in college.

Arens enjoys reading, playing the piano, boating and walking her dog, Molly.

Stowe is excited to begin teaching kindergarten at St. Agnes School. This is a career switch for her. She was formerly a computer analyst for Metro King Co. in Washington state.

Teaching school is her "hobby," she said. "I am excited to be in my dream job!"

Peggy and her husband, Phil, have a daughter, Andrea, 21, in advertising school. Their son, Carson, 17, is a senior at Alexandria's Jefferson High School.

Phil works at W3I in Sartell.

Stowe, a native of Mound, moved to Alexandria in 2010 and has previously taught reading intervention for two years in Alexandria. She has also been a substitute teacher in the Moorhead schools.

Pospisil is a native of Wilmont. She is starting her 33rd year at St. Agnes School in Osakis. She taught third and fourth grades there for four years and, for the rest of the years, taught kindergarten and pre-school. She started the pre-school program in her sixth year at St. Agnes.

The past two years, Pospisil served as co-principal.

Pospisil and her husband, Jim, live in Alexandria where he is a business unit manager for ITW Heartland. They have two children, Jason, who lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with his wife Katie, and Amber, a senior at Concordia College in Moorhead.

"I enjoy being outdoors working in the garden, bicycling and walking," she said. Indoors, she enjoys reading and scrapbooking.

Pospisil and Jim are active members of the Rose City Threshing Heritage Festival and enjoy helping recreate the "good old days." Jim is into steam engines. They purchased a steam engine and run it with help at the festival.

The new principal notes that St. Agnes' theme for the year is Discover J.O.Y. (Jesus, Others and Yourself)

"My goals for the year, like our students, is to continue to learn, grow in experience and face the challenges that lie ahead with optimism," she said.
