Farm meeting to hit lots of topics
"#Hashtags Hit the Fan!" is the theme of this year's meeting of Todd County livestock and crop farmers, certified ag waste technicians and manure pumpers.
It will take place at the Clarissa Ballroom on Wednesday, March 21.
Hashtags (or pound signs) identify messages on specific topics typically found in social media. Hashtags that will be talked about at the March 21 meeting include:
#ThatStinks! — dealing with public perception of agriculture and manure. The speaker is Rick Martens, executive director of the Minnesota Custom Applicators Association.
#Your Land — next steps for the nitrogen fertilizer rule. Ryan Perish with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture is the speaker.
#Weedwhackers — discussing Todd County "weed creep" identification by Nancy Uhlenkamp, agricultural inspector.
#JamaisVu — manure and fertilizer regulations as discussed by a Soil and Water Conservation District livestock advisor.
Other topics: #Butts&Guts — disease transmissions in manure with John W. Piehl, USDA veterinarian medical officer; Cutting Edge Composting for Farms with Brian Ziemer, Board of Animal Health; and #ThePathOutoftheBarn — Switching Up Grazing Management for Soil Health, a presentation by farmer Ryan Hough and Jeff Duchene, NRCS grazing specialist.
