A public hearing will take place Tuesday, Dec. 10 to consider a conditional use permit that would expand a dairy and beef farm on Bird Lake Road NE in Osakis Township by adding up to 4,800 swine.
The applicants are Steven W. Trisco and Orry Trisco. If approved, the application would expand the existing facility, which consists of 64.5 animal units to 904.5 units, according to the Douglas County Land and Resource Management Department, which has sent notices to property owners and township officials.
The existing farm includes 55 dairy heifers and 26 beef cows, along with a partial confinement barn with access to a series of open lots.
The proposed facility would add 2,400 swine that are 55 pounds or lighter and 2,400 swine that are between 55 and 300 pounds. The Triscos also plan to build two new total confinement barns with four slatted flood liquid manure storage areas beneath the barns to accommodate up to 999 animal units.
The hearing will take place before the Douglas County Planning Advisory Commission at 6:30 p.m. in the County Commissioners Room on the second floor of the Douglas County Courthouse, 305 8th Ave. W, Alexandria.
Interested residents may attend either in person or through an agent or attorney to express their opposition or support of the proposal.
The planning commission will make a recommendation to the county commissioners, which has the final say in the matter.
