Chances are, many presents that were opened on Christmas in Osakis were purchased right here.

That’s because the Osakis Area Chamber of Commerce's Shop Local Holiday Event on Thursday, Dec. 5 was a success, according to organizers.

The event spiced things up with the third annual Chili Cook Off and also offered later store hours downtown, a bonfire and s’mores and “one night only” sales and specials from more than 18 local businesses.

“What an awesome event it was!” said Chamber President Cory Abers. “We had such a great turnout for the town and our businesses. The streets were full and people were in all the businesses. It was a huge success and we are already planning for next year.”

Abers shared some feedback the chamber received from a business owner: “Great event! We will gladly stay open later next year. A huge thanks to the chamber for putting on this event and to all who attended. It was a huge success because everyone did their part – businesses and shoppers. Hats off to our wonderful community!”

The Osakis Chamber thanked all the businesses that participated and the shoppers who came out and enjoyed the festivities. “Osakis was flourishing in support for our businesses,” Abers said. “Small businesses depend on all of our efforts to shop local and make a difference.”
