Wednesday, October 31

Starting at 4:30 p.m. Osakis Presbyterian Church Trunk or Treat Halloween Night. Bring kids to a fun, safe environment for free treats in the church parking lot, 101 West Oak St. Those who don't get trick-or-treaters at their home are invited to join the church's event. Plenty of parking spaces are available.

5:30 to 7 p.m. Annual Osakis Halloween Party will take place at the Osakis High School cafeteria. Children through sixth grade should dress in their Halloween costumes and be prepared for a lot of candy, fun and prizes. A light supper of hot dogs, chips, cookie and punch will be served. Volunteers are needed; call 320-293-4491.

Thursday, November 1

Yard Waste Pick-Up, sponsored by West Central Sanitation and the city of Osakis. The city requires that yard waste be bagged separately from other household refuse material and put at curbside for pick-up in biodegradable bags by 7 a.m. Go to for more information.

7 to 10 p.m. Senior Dance featuring "Joe and Jim" at Osakis VFW.

7 to 10 p.m. Sixth, Seventh and Eighth-Grade Dance at the school cafeteria.

10:15 a.m. Osakis Veterans Day program at the Osakis High School Auditorium. Speaker is Dr. Jim Tourila, National VFW Surgeon.

Thursday, November 22

9 a.m. Sixth annual Turkey Dash for Diabetes 5K Run/Walk. Registration starts at 8 a.m. at O-Town Tavern in Osakis. Kids' half-mile run starts at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Silent auction with handmade quilt, door prizes. Pre-register by Oct. 29 — $30 for adults (includes shirt); $20 for children 12 and younger (5K) and $15 for children 12 and younger (half-mile). For more information or to register, go to

Al Edenloff

Al Edenloff is the news and opinion page editor for the Echo Press. He was born in Alexandria and lived most of his childhood in Parkers Prairie. He graduated with honors from Moorhead State University with a degree in mass communications, print journalism. He interned at the Echo Press in the summer of 1983 and was hired a year later as a sports reporter. He also worked as a news reporter/photographer. Al is a four-time winner of the Minnesota Newspaper Association's Herman Roe Award, which honors excellence in editorial writing.
