In a precautionary move, Alomere Health in Alexandria announced that it is implementing visitor restrictions until further notice.

The move comes after the Minnesota Department of Health has declared the geographic spread of influenza as widespread throughout the state.

The restrictions are:

  • Patient visits should be restricted to immediate family members, unless permission is granted for compassionate reasons.
  • Children under the age of 5 should not visit the hospital.
  • Visitors must not have any flu-like symptoms for a minimum of 24 hours before visiting patients. Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat or diarrhea.

Restrictions have been put in place in previous years due to influenza outbreaks, and according to an Alomere Health statement, they are being instituted now as a precautionary measure for patients, staff, visitors and the community.
