New bleachers will be in place for the 2019 Osakis football season, following action by the School Board at its Monday, July 8 regular meeting.
Two sections of bleachers at the baseball and softball fields will be replaced, and two sections will be added on the visitor football side.
Total cost for the improvements of $34,000 will be taken from the long term maintenance facility budget.
Floating cement slabs will also be installed before the bleachers are assembled.
After discussion over several meetings, the School Board voted unanimously to eliminate student accident insurance coverage for the coming school year.
It was pointed out that other schools no longer offer this service, which would cost the school district about $33,000.
Information on parental options for supplemental coverage will be offered at the back to school meetings. The School Board will have information on the available coverage at the August board meeting.
School Board members pointed out that Osakis’s fees for sports participation are very low, and that additional insurance coverage for sports would be about $150 to $300 per person.
Parents insurance cover their children in school.
In other action, the School Board approved membership in the Minnesota State High School League for the coming school year. The board was also required to view the 6 1/2 minute training video titled, “Why We Play,” which defines the purpose and the value to students of education-based athletic and activity programs.
