Bruce and Rose Asfeld of Osakis will host the 2019 Todd County Dairy Field Day on Tuesday, July 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The Asfeld farm is located at 10804 137th Ave., in Osakis, which is right at the top of the I-94 West Union exit. Watch for signs. Refreshments and ice cream treats will be provided.
The Asfelds started dairy farming in 1994 at their current site near West Union. Their farm has undergone many changes over the years. They currently milk about 125 Holsteins in a double 8 swing parabone milking parlor with automatic take-offs that was retrofitted into their tie-stall barn in 2009.
The free-stall barn started out as a compost barn and 104 stalls were installed in 2012. Part of the barn remains as a compost bedded area for special needs cows. The Asfelds' future farm goals are to build a new heifer raising facility as well as a hay shed.
To promote good herd health practices when visiting farms, the Todd County Extension Office urges attendees to wear clothes that have been washed and not worn in other livestock facilities since washing. Plastic boots will be provided. For more information or questions, contact Brenda Miller at the Todd County Extension Office: 320-732-4435 or email@example.com.
