Osakis to honor veterans at program

The Osakis Veterans Day program will take place on Monday, Nov. 12 at the Osakis High School Auditorium at 10:15 a.m.

Main address speaker will be Dr. Jim Tuorila, a clinical psychologist in St. Cloud who is the National VFW surgeon. Dr. Tuorila is also the current Department of Minnesota VFW POW/MIA chairman and the Department of Minnesota VFW Surgeon.

Veterans Day falls on a Sunday this year, but organizers always hold the event during a school day so students from 7th through 12th grade can go to it. The public is also encouraged to attend.

In honor of Veterans Day, Mayor Keith "Kip" Emerson signed the following proclamation:

Whereas, millions of American men and women have answered the call to duty in defending the hard-won freedoms we enjoy today.

Whereas, this day, November 11, Veterans' Day, is the occasion on which we remember, recognize and honor the unselfish service, in all wars and military actions of our veterans.

Therefore, I ask all of the citizens of the Greater Osakis area to join with me in this very special observance of Veterans Day. Let us recognize the hardships and sacrifices of those we know as veterans, and let us give them special recognition.
