Several area school districts decided Wednesday to make it three consecutive days of school closings.
With a wind chill warning issued by the National Weather Service remaining in effect until noon, area schools opted to either close school or delay its start by two hours.
In the closing category are Alexandria, Osakis, Brandon-Evansville and Minnewaska school districts. It will be the third straight day those schools have been closed.
On Thursday morning, West Central Area School District was added to the closed list.
Parkers Prairie School District announced Wednesday that it would start school two hours late Thursday.
Alexandria Technical & Community College will start classes at 10 a.m. Thursday.
The Alexandria Senior Center is also closed again Thursday, and the Meals on Wheels program will not be running in the Alexandria area.
In the Alexandria School District's statement, its decision to close was made for the safety of its students and staff. At 7 a.m. Thursday, the temperature was 25 below zero with a wind chill of -42. Thursday's high is forecast to be 5 below zero
Compass school age child care will be open at Woodland Elementary from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. And because weather conditions are expected to improve through the day Thursday, all evening community education classes and facility rentals will be open, while high school practices and athletic contests will go on as scheduled.
Middle school and elementary activities will not resume until Friday.
