Suspect shoots deputy with arrow in Sauk Centre
A suspect is in custody in Stearns County after a standoff in Sauk Centre earlier today, Thursday, Sept. 13.
According to Osakis Police Chief Chad Gulbranson, a stolen vehicle was reported in Douglas County and a chase ensued, ending in Sauk Centre.
The Sauk Centre Police Department posted on its Facebook page that because of a standoff, a soft lockdown was taken as a precautionary measure at the schools. Homes in the area of the 700 block of 10th Street South in Sauk Centre were also evacuated.
The post was updated shortly after noon, stating the suspect was taken into custody.
According to the Sauk Centre Herald Facebook page, just before 11 a.m., a deputy from the Stearns County Sheriff's Office fired shots at the suspect after being struck in the arm by an arrow fired from a bow. The deputy was reportedly taken to the Sauk Centre hospital before being transported to a different hospital.
Gulbranson said the injuries were non-life threatening.
Those responding to the incident included the Sauk Centre Police Department, Stearns County Sheriff's Office, other local police, Minnesota State Patrol, Department of Natural Resources officers, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agents and SWAT team members.
