The Osakis Police Department recently responded to an incident that involved vehicle tampering, a foot chase and an arrest on drug charges.

Officers responded to a report at 4:45 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29 of a male going through vehicles on West Pike Street.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene and saw the suspect running from the Pike Street area.

An Osakis officer was able to find the suspect on Queen Street and a foot pursuit ensued. The officer apprehended the suspect a block later and he was arrested for vehicle tampering, possession of controlled substances and fleeing on foot. The suspect is an 18-year-old man from Starbuck.

The officer then checked most of the vehicles parked on driveways and on Pike Street and was shocked to find that over half of them were unlocked, according to the Osakis Police Department’s Facebook page.

“Please lock your vehicles when they are parked outside!” the department posted. “We want to think the responsible citizen that called the suspicious activity in. We need your eyes and ears out there to help us keep Osakis a place safe to live.”
