Band, choir to travel to Florida
A June 2020 trip for the Osakis High School Band and OHS Choir was approved by the School Board at its Monday, May 13 regular meeting.
Band director Randy Resley, and choir director Nicole Mattfeld, presented the itinerary for the trip scheduled for June 19-27, 2020 to Orlando and Melbourne Beach, Florida.
The cost figures were based on using two motor coaches.
"This is the exact same trip we have done the last three times," Resley told the board.
The trip includes two instrumental and two vocal performances. The music groups had to audition for the Disney Springs performances, and were accepted.
The trip includes educational workshops, which includes recording with professional equipment.
The attractions include Disney Performing Arts OnStage 3-Day Park Hopper, Disney Performing Arts OnStage Gift for performers only, Universal Orlando two park, one day park to park passes, and Disney Sing workshops.
The students will experience Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Universal Studio, Islands of Adventure, Performance of Blue Man Group, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Seaworld Orlando.
Rooms offered will be quad, triple, double or single rooms, ranging from $1,570 to $2,016.
Resley said a mailing will go out to the students' parents asking for a commitment to make the trip, and a non-refundable deposit of one-fourth of the cost of the trip.
Osakis Music Department offers the band and choir trip once every four years for grades 9-12.
"They get one big trip in their high school career in both band and choir," Resley said.
This year's trip is estimated to cost about $1,500. Students work on various projects to help pay for the trip.
