Osakis Public School was buzzing with the excitement of a brand new school year on Tuesday morning, Sept. 3.
Buses rolled up to the school shortly after 8 a.m. and children poured out, carrying backpacks and ready to meet their teachers and start another year.
The 2019-2020 calendar calls for 172 school days, 3.5 fall workshop days for teachers, 1.5 days for parent-teacher conferences, and 5 workshop days (Nov. 4, Jan. 20, March 2 and 13, and May 29).
The calendar also includes make-up days and three flexible/electronic learning days in case school is closed because of bad weather.
The first break of the school year for students will be Oct. 17 and 18 during MEA.
Other non-school days include Nov. 4 (workshop), Nov. 28-29 (Thanksgiving), Dec. 23-Jan. 1 (winter break), Jan. 20 (workshop), Feb. 14 , Feb. 17 (Presidents Day), March 2 (workshop), March 23 (workshop), April 10 and 13 (spring break), May 25 (Memorial Day) and May 29 (workshop).
And way ahead — Thursday, May 28 — is the last day of school.
