The Osakis High School presented “Arsenic and Old Lace” as its fall play this year.
Written by Joseph Kesselring, the play revolves around the Brewster family in the 1940s in Brooklyn, New York. The film version of the play was released in 1944.
The family includes two spinster aunts who have taken to murdering lonely old men by poisoning them with homemade elderberry wine laced with arsenic, strychnine and cyanide, along with their nephew who believes he is Theodore Roosevelt, another nephew who also murders people and a nephew who is a drama critic.
The cast also includes a host of other characters in the hilariously funny dramatic comedy.
The play was performed last week on both Thursday, Oct. 24 and Friday, Oct. 25.
