House explosion sends one to hospital
A house explosion June 30 in Leslie Township has left one person with severe burns to most of her body.
The explosion happened around 3:30 p.m. at 22832 161st Ave., Osakis in Leslie Township, Todd County, just northeast of the Head of the Lakes Resort.
One person, identified as Christy Bearson, 34, was severely burned as a result of the explosion.
According to the Todd County Sheriff's Office, Bearson was attempting to light the pilot light on a household appliance when a gas fire erupted. Ricky Peterson, 36, who was also at the house, was outside of the residence at the time of explosion. Peterson reportedly suffered some minor burn injuries.
Bearson was transported to CentraCare Health in Long Prairie, where she was then airlifted to the Hennepin County Medical Center for further treatment. Long Prairie Fire Chief Jim Kreemer reported that Bearson apparently sustained burns to 90-95 percent of her body.
The Long Prairie Fire Department responded to the scene, but there was no fire after the explosion, according to the fire chief. The fire department remained on the scene for one hour.
The incident remains under investigation by the Minnesota state fire marshal.
