Townships elect leaders in Osakis area

Township residents elected leaders and took care of business at elections and annual meetings on Tuesday, March 13.

Here are the results for townships in the Osakis area:

Belle River Township: Andy Miller was voted in as supervisor and voters approved combining the clerk and treasurer position by a 10-5 vote. Although it won't be official until the township's organizational meeting on Monday, March 19, Jesse Lusty should be appointed as clerk/treasurer. Total voters: 15.

Orange Township: Jennifer Dietrich will remain as clerk and Mitch Zarbok will continue as supervisor. Total voters: 16.

Osakis Township: With 10 voters casting ballots, Howard Swenstad was re-elected to his supervisor position and Dawn McNeal to the clerk/treasurer position.

Gordon Township: Two candidates filed for a supervisor position and the incumbent, Alden Johnson, received more votes than his opponent, Lee Christopherson. There was an open seat for the clerk position because no one filed and newcomer Sheryl Mostad was the winner.

West Union Township: Two incumbents were returned to office — Supervisor Tom Miller and Clerk John Chalmers.

Al Edenloff

Al Edenloff is the news and opinion page editor for the Echo Press. He was born in Alexandria and lived most of his childhood in Parkers Prairie. He graduated with honors from Moorhead State University with a degree in mass communications, print journalism. He interned at the Echo Press in the summer of 1983 and was hired a year later as a sports reporter. He also worked as a news reporter/photographer. Al is a four-time winner of the Minnesota Newspaper Association's Herman Roe Award, which honors excellence in editorial writing.
