Five people were taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning on County Road 82.

The crash happened between Nelson and Osakis, at the intersection with Smith Lake Road SE and a frontage road, Wildlife Loop, at approximately 11:20 a.m. Thursday.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office: Kelsey Bender, 23, of Osakis, stated she was driving a 2011 Malibu westbound on County Road 82 when a 2009 Dodge Caliber driven by John Host, 75, of Browerville, turned left in front of her.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged.

Bender had two passengers in her car: Jody Bender, 50, of Osakis, and an 11-year-old child who was not identified by the sheriff's office. Riding with Host was Margaret Host, 70, of Browerville.

Three people were taken by North Ambulance to Alomere Health, while two others were taken there by a private vehicle. The conditions of all five are unknown.

Several agencies responded, including Osakis Fire Department and First Responders, the Douglas County and Todd County sheriff’s offices, North Ambulance and area towing companies.

The crash is under investigation.
