The Osakis boys basketball team moved to 9-0 with its 62-41 win over Holdingford Tuesday night.
“It was a tough win against a team that plays aggressive the entire game,” Osakis head coach Matt Hoelscher said. “They were relentless on defense, which caused some hurried shots that we missed. We allowed them to hang around the first half.”
Osakis shot 38 percent from the field and made 4-of-19 three-point attempts.
“We got into some foul trouble and lost our rhythm on both ends,” Hoelscher said. “We made some adjustments and had a good start to the second half by getting turnovers and turning them into points. It was great to see Luke (Imdieke) attacking the basket and making some outside shots. (Brandon) Boogaard did a great job getting out in transition and scoring at the rim.”
Boogaard led the Silverstreaks with 18 points. Imdieke added 16 points, as well.
It’s been an emotional few weeks for the Holdingford program. On Dec. 17, head coach Matthew Meyers lost his wife and unborn child in a fatal car accident. Casey Meyers was five months pregnant. She was driving to work in St. Cloud before she stopped at an intersection. A semi-truck blew a stop sign and struck her car.
“It was nice to win, but I'm more proud of how our players and parents reached out to an ailing community and showed their support for Matt Myers,” Hoelscher said. “Their unselfishness and generosity was remarkable, and it shows that being a good person is more important than being a good basketball player.”
