Louise Ann, the daughter of Kenneth and Mary (Kreemer) Steidl, was born on May 28, 1926 in Belle River Township. She attended a one-room schoolhouse (country school District #92).
Louise and her future husband, Bill Zimmel, met as children and lived on farms less than 1/4 mile from each other. She and the handsome farmer next door later dated, danced, fell in love, and were married on October 16, 1945 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River. After the wedding, Louise moved down the road where the couple raised their two children and lived their whole lives until moving to Alexandria Assisted Living.
Louise is known for her kind heart, her love for sharing food, and her love for chatting and laughing. She was a wonderful caregiver to her children (Don and Marlene), two nieces she raised as her own (Joyce & Marsha Steidl), her grandchildren, and many others.
Louise was always active at church and belonged to the St. Ann’s Sodality and Christian Mothers. She also enjoyed playing cards and was Officer of their Sr. Club for many years. Louise was also a wonderful cook and baker.
She always had a sweet treat and a hug for anyone who visited or needed a little love.
Each year, Louise lovingly tended huge gardens of berries, vegetables, and flowers that she shared with family and friends. She also canned, raised chickens, sold eggs, and helped Bill on the farm with whatever chores needed to be done.
Louise died on Friday, July 19, 2019, after being lovingly cared for at Alexandria Assisted Living for the past several years. She is survived by her son Don & wife Sandi; daughter Marlene & husband Harry Bettin; five grandchildren (Bill Bettin & wife Stephanie; Michelle Bettin & husband Mychal Coleman; Molly Lipke & husband Jeff; Ellen Zimmel; Mark Zimmel); brother Gerald & wife Chris; sister Dianne & husband Darryl Botzet; seven great grandchildren (Quinten, Jackson, and Violet Bettin; Morgan Bettin-Coleman; Logan, Madison, and Paige Lipke), several nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; infant daughter, Linda; brother, Marvin Steidl.
