Osakis, age 77 died Friday, Feb. 7, 2020 in Alexandria, MN with family by her side.
On January 31, 1943 Roland and Myrtle (Popham) Mead became parents of a baby girl they named Barbara Lee. In 1960, Barb graduated from Osakis High School. She attended Mankato State and married her soulmate, Merle Harth on April 6, 1963 in Osakis. Barb taught for the Head Start program in Osakis, but when the opportunity arose to purchase a restaurant in Alexandria, the Harths began a new venture. They operated the Coffee Pot Café for twenty-two years. After selling the café, Barb worked as a dietician at the Douglas County Hospital, retiring in 2014. She belonged to the United Methodist Church, Osakis and was active in the Ladies Aid and as a Sunday School teacher. After its closing, she joined the UCC in Alexandria, MN.
Barb was an amazing woman who valued her family. She was a proud grandma, spoiling her grandkids with love and attention. She was a sports fan for the MN teams but especially for her own family’s sporting events. She stayed active golfing, bowling, camping and gardening. She will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Survived by husband, Merle Harth, Osakis; son, Kyle Harth, Osakis; daughter, Amy Weller, Alexandria; 5 grandchildren; 1 gt. granddaughter; sister, Marilyn (Dale) Roth, Deer River. Preceded by parents and a brother, George Mead.
Funeral services will be held on Tues., Feb. 11 at 11 am at the Lillian Building in Osakis with Rev. Michael Fritz officiating. Interment is at the West Evergreen Cemetery in Osakis, MN.
