We are very excited here at the Galeon as we continue to look at ways to enhance resident rooms and areas of use. We are scheduled to have new flooring installed at CMH. All hallways, the dining room and common areas will be done initially. Resident rooms will then be done as we are able to plan and accommodate our current residents. Each room will have new flooring, lighting, closets, built in dressers and will be repainted. We currently have one room done and it looks amazing.

Galeon continues to offer a certified nursing assistant class to area individuals who would like to work with our residents in the nursing home. We have had 17 students go through the program in which 13 have gained employment at Galeon. We have also had several housing resident assistants successfully complete the class and are working in multiple buildings on campus. With having these types of cross trained employees, we are able to keep consistent staffing compared to the industry, which only benefits residents and their families.

Back injuries in the medical field account for many work comp claims. We are in the process of ordering a new machine that will allow our staff to lift someone from the floor to a sitting position without having to use any physical lifting from their own bodies. This machine is simple to assemble and has an exceptional battery life. The simplicity and strength of this technology allows staff to assist residents with a push of a button. We are excited to offer this new device. It will eliminate most lifting hazards and allow our residents to be lifted with ease should an unforeseen fall occur.

I am sure many Osakis residents have noticed machinery outside on the Galeon grounds. Our maintenance department has been working very hard to get the outside cleaned and trimmed up. We have been clearing out bushes that did not make it through the winter months. Our tenants at West View are glad to be able to sit out on the porch and be able see out again as many bushes were overgrown. We have lots more planned, I am excited to see how it develops.

As an appreciation to all our community members, Galeon will be hosting its second annual community picnic on Thursday, July 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a rain makeup day being July 19. We will be offering food, games and prizes for kids and their families. We will also have a bouncy house, face painting, music and more. We hope to see you there!

Feel free to stop by anytime to see our changes!
