July 4, 1918
Socks wanted. Washington has asked for 550,000 pairs of socks by September 1, and Northern Division Red Cross workers must knit three times as hard this summer if quota of socks is raised, says the Northern Division Bulletin of June 27. All local Red Cross chapters are asked to double their current production. The Northern Division must make good on its allotment.
Purchases of sugar further reduced. Purchases of sugar for regular household purposes other than canning, are hereafter limited to two pounds for each purchase in the city and five pounds for each purchases in rural communities, in an order issued by the state food administration this week.
Corporal Briant to tell of life in the war zone. Famous Canadian Lecturer, Corporal Briant of the Canadian infantry will be guest speaker in Osakis, while visiting. He is making a tour of the country lecturing upon what he knows and his actual accounts and experiences of what is happening over there and exhibiting moving pictures of the terrific fighting now taking place.

Region III Dairy Princess. Minnesota's Lake Region dairy farmer's newest princess is pretty Miss Heidi Bart, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Labvert Bart of Verndale. Miss Bart was chosen Region III American Dairy Association Dairy Princess from a field of 28 dairy farm girls at Dairy Day held at Long Prairie June 20.
Girl Scouts attend camp. Osakis Troop 215 of the Girl Scouts attended Smokey Timbers Camp on Lake Miltona the week of June 16-21, with Mrs. Edward Glynn and Mrs. Royce Peterson going along with the girls as leaders. Camp activities for the girls included brushing up on Scout lore, setting up camp, making fires, getting meals ready and served on time and other basic camp duties.
Big fireworks display. An invitation is once again extended to the general public to enjoy a big 4th of July fireworks celebration at the Osakis Country Club this year. The club presented this display last year, with the aid of the Osakis Fire Department, much to the enjoyment of all present.

San Francisco 49'er judges Chili Cook-off. Keith Fahnhorst, a former San Francisco 49'er was one of the judges for the Second annual Chili Cook-off on Saturday, June 26. The two-time member of the Super Bowl championship team, who brought his daughter, Courtney, with him to the cook-off, said "This is my first trip to Osakis. The people here are nice and I've had a lot of fun." Fahnhorst, who grew up in St. Cloud now lives in Eden Prairie. He works for Dain bosworth as an investor.
Citywide garage sale features trolley rides. The Garage Sale of them all will be held in Osakis on Saturday, July 11. The second annual citywide event is being held in conjunction with the Roddin' Round the Lake car show. New this year will be horse-drawn trolley rides to the garage sale locations.
Street rod voting event. The second annual Roddin' Round the Lake Car Show will be held in Osakis Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 9-11. The 1993 event will be a Minnesota Street rod Voting Event, and that will bring more and better cars. It is anticipated there will be more than 200 cars entered in this year's show and additional space has been designated downtown Osakis for the event.

Burn some rubber. Cars are bookin' into Osakis July 11-12 for the 17th annual Central Lakes Cruzers Roddin' Round the Lake classic car show. There are no limits to these cars — from Tin Lizzies to fix-it again Tony's, to the gold packages of gaudy-looking vehicles. Expect everything and anything since there are no restrictions or regulations.
Twinning: Osakis and Belle River Catholic churches share resources. An Osakis church just got an older twin brother. As of July 1, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church twinned with St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River. Father Ralph Zimmerman, who joined Immaculate Conception parish las year, will now serve as the pastor of St. Nicholas.
Strike up the band... the gang's all here. The Osakis community stepped up and once again brought the town alive with excitement for the annual Osakis Festival held June 26-29. From jumping in sacks to pony rides to a top-notch parade, Osakis was the place to be for all sorts of fun.
