Three state-ranked wrestlers on Osakis squad

Osakis wrestling coach Joey Andreasen likes the athletes he has at his disposal this year. The key will be keeping them all healthy.

"Our strength will be our strong nucleus of returning starters, seven of which recorded 15 wins or more last season," he said. "Our weakness will be our lack of depth. If we are to have a successful year as a team, we will have to remain healthy."

Senior Garret Scherr is at the top of the list of guys Andreasen hopes to keep in the lineup. Scherr is ranked third in the preseason individual rankings from The Guillotine. He was one of two Osakis wrestlers who punched their ticket to the state meet a year ago.

Sophomore Trenton Coyer was the other. He comes into the season ranked No. 8 at 113 pounds after winning the Section 5A championship last winter. His younger brother, Brendon, is also ranked in the preseason rankings. He comes in at No. 2 at 106 pounds, behind only Austin Anderly of LeSueur-Henderson.

Austin Rollag, Brandon Spanswick and Brian Thorstad join Scherr as the senior leaders for Osakis. Junior Peter Hagen and sophomores Tyler Spanswick and Ryan Engfer are also returning letter winners hoping to make an impact.

They will have to compete against a talented field in Section 5A come tournament time. Andreasen views Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City and Kimball and the top two teams in that section. Both are ranked in the top 12 in Class A by The Guillotine with ACGC at No. 2 and Kimball ranked 12th.
