Osakis’ Dominic Strom, Triston Stoetzel and Nathan Kulzer have all racked up good records this winter season and all had hopes of potentially finishing among the top two in their weight classes at the Section 5A individual meet on Saturday.

In the end, those runs came up just short as the Silverstreaks were not able to qualify anyone for this weekend’s state tournament.

Strom (29-13), Stoetzel (26-14) and Kulzer (29-12) all wrestled in the third-place matches. Strom, a senior, won his third-place match at 195 pounds by pinning Isiah Gorder of LPGE in 3:05, but a loss to second-place finisher Thomas Dineen of Benson in the semifinals ultimately meant that no true-second match was needed for Dineen to secure his spot at state.

Strom was 3-1 on the day with a win by fall in 1:20 to go with a 4-0 decision around his pin in the third-place match. The lone loss came when Dineen pinned him in 5:52.

Stoetzel, also a senior, fell in an 8-5 decision during his third-place match. He won his first round match by fall in just 44 seconds. Caleb Pesta of LPGE won a 7-4 decision against Stoetzel in the semifinals, but Stoetzel bounced back in the consolation semifinals with a pin in 30 seconds over Dylan Koubsky of Minnewaska to keep his season alive temporarily.

Kulzer, a junior, came up just short in his third-place match, losing in a tiebreaker 8-6 against Gunner Stier (30-14) of Quad County. Kulzer won by a 4-1 decision in the quarterfinals, lost another close match (SV-1, 6-4) in the semifinals and won a 10-0 major decision in the consolation semifinals against Ely Johnson of KMS.

Other Osakis wrestlers included Logan Grove taking sixth at 106 pounds. Carsten Jacobson (132) and Hunter Harlow (152) finished eighth in their weight classes. Gaven Cimbura (113) and Nathan Bjerk (170) also wrestled but did not place.
